DraftKings & FanDuel NASCAR DFS Core Plays & Cheat Sheet – Daytona 500

DraftKings & FanDuel NASCAR DFS – Daytona 500

The NASCAR Cup Series kicks off at The Great American Race in Daytona Beach, FL for the Daytona 500. Below, we analyze crucial considerations and top plays for DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy sports contests.

Martin Truex Jr. – DK: $8,200 | FD: $9,000

Martin Truex Jr. is simply priced too low on both daily fantasy sites for the first race of the season. In general, the Daytona 500 is known to be unpredictable and prone to both high variance and crashes. As such, fantasy players must be cognizant of both minimizing downside risks and maximizing odds of a successful finishing outcome.

Top finish odds are widely distributed for Monday’s race, reflecting the variance. Moreover, dominator points are expected to be widely distributed and should be a modest consideration Monday as the race is only 200 total laps.

In addition to favorable odds, Truex is set to start pretty close to the back — in the 27th pole position. The potential for high differential points at what is a mid-range price on DraftKings and FanDuel, in addition to the odds value, makes Truex an solid option for daily fantasy on both sites and in all formats.

Corey LaJoie – DK: $6,000 | FD: $5,500

As mentioned above in the write-up about Martin Truex Jr., finding value options in a highly-variant race, specifically in the early portion of the NASCAR Cup Series season, comes down to accounting for both odds value and differential value. Corey LaJoie is priced below his odds value on this slate, which demonstrates value in terms of finishing position alone.

Beyond that, LaJoie has a chance to earn significant differential points, particularly relative to the mid-salary tier. LaJoie is set to start in the 29th position in Monday’s race. He has a history of solid performances at Daytona, with nine top-twenty and four top-ten finishes in fourteen races at the track. In addition to a solid potential for differential points, rostering LaJoie at such a low starting position helps minimize downside point scoring risk considerably.
