The Core 4: MLB DFS Picks Today for DraftKings & FanDuel – 4/29/24

The Core 4: MLB DFS Picks Today for DraftKings & FanDuel Contests on April 29, 2023.

In this article, we cover four core tournament plays for FanDuel & DraftKings daily fantasy baseball contests. These players are the ones we are going to have strong GPP exposure to for the main slate.

As a reminder, we focus primarily on lower-owned candidates for GPP tournament leverage in this article. Plus, you can always jump in and start optimizing your lineups for FanDuel & DraftKings at any time.

Top Pitcher

Bryce Miller (SEA)

Bryce Millers price tag was decreased on DraftKings specifically but a viable option for tournaments on both sites despite being an underdog in this faceoff. ATL have had scored runs on the lower end of the league lately (13th least) and worth capitalizing off that due to that not occurring often. In other words, Miller is likely to have low ownership in lineups and could potentially exceed his value. However, the problem is Miller may have a slim chance of receiving a win bonus in lineups with SEA striking out more than any other team overall as of late.

High Tier Hitter

Ryan Jeffers (MIN)

The price tag may be more slightly appealing on FanDuel specifically, but Ryan Jeffers could end up being a strong option in lineups and facing a pitcher that has been regressing heavily lately. Jeffers is coming off two straight multi-hit performances (one being a homerun) and is likely to be one of the most viable batting options from his team. Although Garrett Crochet has yet to surrender more hits than strikeouts so far this season the gap has been shrinking against right-handed batters specifically (26 hits to 32 strikeouts). Therefore, as a right-handed leadoff hitter Jeffers should be one of righties within the lineup likely to take advantage of that especially with the highest run value on average against Crochet’s pitching arsenal among his teammates.

Willy Adames (MIL)

Since this matchup is among the lowest projected scoring matchups on the slate Willy Adames could get overlooked heavily in contests and worth targeting as a one-off and/or key to MIL stacks. Adames is among the three least struck out MIL batters on his team which would be needed here against a pitcher that hasn’t even given up double-digit hits to his handedness yet. On the other hand, Adames has the highest chance of scoring between both teams due to his efficiency when facing Ryan Pepiot’s selected pitches being the highest. Also, since this matchup also has one of the closest spreads there should be no surprise if the scoring goes back and forth late and luckily Adames is the 2nd highest scorer up to this point.

Value Hitter

Joshua Rojas (SEA)

Desptie SEA being the most struck out teams in the league Joshua Rojas may end up being one of the strongest value options to choose from. Rojas has been streaky but if there was anyone likely to take advantage of Max Fried’s pitching woes when facing lefties it would be Rojas. Luckily, Fried has surrendered drastically more hits compared to strikeouts when facing left-handed batters (11 to 3) and could result in Rojas exceeding his value for his second game in a row. The price tag also remains near the lower end for Rojas which should be taken advantage of while having little to no projected ownership.

Top Under Owned Stack

Tampa Bay Rays

Both teams in this matchup have had on base percentages on the higher end of the league as of late (MIL- 8th at 32.8%, TB- 10th at 31.8%) but TB are underdogs and likely to be even lesser owned. TB have been struck out less overall (44 to 59) and facing a pitcher that has a closer hit surrender to strikeout ratio (6 hits to 6 strikeouts when facing lefties). Moreover, since this spread is projected to be one of the closest on the slate that should be enough edge for them to exceed their expectations and provide good value.
