The Core 4: MLB DFS Picks Today for DraftKings & FanDuel – 4/28/24

The Core 4: MLB DFS Picks Today for DraftKings & FanDuel Contests on April 28, 2023.

In this article, we cover four core tournament plays for FanDuel & DraftKings daily fantasy baseball contests. These players are the ones we are going to have strong GPP exposure to for the main slate.

As a reminder, we focus primarily on lower-owned candidates for GPP tournament leverage in this article. Plus, you can always jump in and start optimizing your lineups for FanDuel & DraftKings at any time.

Top Pitcher

Zack Littell (TB)

Zack Littell performed his best as of late but having two straight games falling three short of double-digit strikeouts bodes well for him to improve in this matchup. Littell has arguably one of the most favorable matchups among pitchers on the slate and expected to have single-digit projected ownership worth taking advantage of in contests. Fortunately, the CWS offense remain the most struck out team in the league so Littell should be able to reach close to the strikeout range he’s been accomplishing as of late. Also, with the CWS hitting being one of the worst in the league overall Littell should have once of the higher chances to receive a win bonus in lineups.

High Tier Hitter

Marcell Ozuna (ATL)

ATL failed to win against one of the better CLE pitchers yesterday and could be slightly risky today in their matchup but should be considered in one of the highest projected scoring games with Marcell Ozuna leading the way. Ozuna has led the team in slugging rate by a decent margin (69.8% with 50% being the next highest) and may end up contributing strong value in lineups. Despite the price tag getting hefty it may be worth targeting him in some tournament lineups while his projected ownership remains on the lower end. Also, among the ATL hitters Ozuna has been the most efficient hitter against Ben Lively’s pitching arsenal and could end up having another multi-hit performance here because of it.

Brice Turang (MIL)

One of the riskier high tier options but one worth considering in lineups is Brice Turang. Turang is one of the few MIL batters with a positive run value on average against Marcus Stroman’s pitching stuff and one of the more viable one-off options. Also, Turang may not have reached his value in his last matchup against Stroman but managing to get a least one hit last time with multiple bases bodes well for him to contribute value here in lineups. As of late Stroman has struggled slightly more against left-handed batters as well giving up 9 hits versus 8 strikeouts and walking them more compared to right-handed batters which should also help Turang produce in lineups as a lefty.

Value Hitter

Rene Pinto (TB)

Rene Pinto’s price tag is near the minimum and coming off a game exceeding his value drastically and may end up as one of the most optimal TB batters. Pinto is one of the few TB bats with a positive run value as of late against his opposing pitcher’s arsenal and could end up helping relive salary for higher priced bats and/or help pay up for his teammate and starting pitcher Zack Littell. However, the biggest risk here is Pinto recently being walked at least once in two straight games which may limit his production slightly due to having limited opportunities late in the batting order making him strictly a tournament option.

Top Under Owned Stack

Milwaukee Brewers

MIL may not be favored in this matchup but are in one of the closest projected games on the slate and could end up sneakily performing well here. Fortunately, their opposing starting pitcher in Marcus Stroman has been gradually surrendering more hits per game (4, 6, and 7 in his last three) which may be worth taking a chance on despite him falling one short of double-digit strikeouts in his last start. However, the price tags are reaching near the higher end for most of the players which may make it more viable to partially stack here from this team. Luckily, at least two of the players may end up contributing strongly for MIL due to their run values reaching toward the higher end (William Contreras/Brice Turang) which could make scoring easier for their teammates.
